Seminar on Software Business Studies 2009

Description

The seminar is aimed for Ph.D. students and faculty members doing research that focuses on the business of software. Program consist primary of student presentations added with key-notes given by senior faculty or industry experts. Student presentations can be research plans or presentations of research results. Each presentation will have an assigned opponent which will guarantee high quality feedback for participants.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide a discussion forum for people sharing similar interests of research (software / ICT business). Participants will get a ring side access to latest research results and industry developments.

Background

There are around 20 to 30 active Ph.D. students in Finland doing their dissertation on a topic related to software business. However, a research forum where students and faculty members can meet and discuss the current status of their research and progress future research initiatives is missing. This seminar will be the first seminar on an annual seminar series organized by the different participating universities.

Program

Both days will kick off with a key-note presentation (1 hour). Day 1 will have a business oriented key-note and the key-note on day 2 will focus on industry dynamics.

After this will be the student presentations, opponent comments and general discussion. Each presentation will have 45 min in total.

For whom

Ph.D. students and faculty members. Students do not have to have their topic fixed but it will help to get conversation started if you have some idea about your topic.

Due to time constraints, the maximum number of presenters is 15.

How to apply

The participants have to write a research paper (i.e. a research plan, a thesis manuscript, conference / journal paper outline or another type of research publication). The papers have to be sent by 16.1.2008. The length of the paper depends on the state and nature of the research project, but should be limited to 10-20 pages. No specific author guidelines are given.

Costs

Accommodation and meals are paid by the participants.

Review Board

Student presentations will be reviewed by the organizing committee that involves academic expertise from all major fields of software business research.
