Community goals
From Software Business Community
Goals of SWBCommunity.org
Software business is defined broadly as the "practice of a core competency in software with the objective of revenue and profit".
The overarching goal of the Software Business Community is to facilitate the creation of a larger and more coherent international multi-disciplinary research community addressing the special challenges and opportunities of a software business, the software industry, and major users of software products and services, and to greatly enhance the multi-way sharing of knowledge and experience among these researchers, managers, and users.
Interaction and collaboration
The community will facilitate communication, interaction, and collaboration among academic and industrial researchers, managers and practitioners conducting software business, and major end-users of software products and services, all based on global collaboration and communication through a modern Web-based wiki platform.
Developing and capturing knowledge
The community will systematically capture and make available by open access the collective expertise, experience, and wisdom of researchers, managers, and users. An Encyclopedia of Software Business will be editable by any community member, and all are encouraged to contribute new articles and improve existing articles. To aid the education of new entrants to software business (especially graduate students and managers), a book Foundations of Software Business will systematically capture the current evolving state of knowledge of the community. Edited and authored by senior and respected members of the community, this book will progress through editions and will be made available in printed as well as browsable form.
The community will also provide a focal point for sharing and refinement of research prior to publication in established peer-reviewed outlets, including working papers, white papers, technical reports, graduate theses, teaching materials and class project reports.
Identifying relevant resources
The community will capture and make available relevant resources such as publication outlets , pre-publication papers, white papers, reports, recommended readings, a calendar with upcoming meetings and conferences, teaching materials and course project reports, and information about organizations and individuals engaged in software business research or practice.
Diversity
An emphasis of the community is on collecting and merging (through a powerful wiki platform) a diversity of perspectives, including different regions of the world, different disciplines (such as business, management, software engineering, economics, and others), and different roles (researcher, manager, end-user).
